How to determine if the load capacity of an electric tilter meets your requirements?
2025-09-03 11:16:17

To determine whether the load capacity of the electric flipping machine meets the requirements, it is necessary to focus on the two core aspects of "actual working condition matching" and "safety redundancy guarantee", and gradually verify through the following five key steps to avoid equipment failure or safety risks caused by load mismatch:

Core premise: Accurately calculate the "actual maximum load"

Firstly, it is necessary to clarify the true weight and load characteristics of the workpiece to be flipped, which is the basis for judgment, to avoid selecting based solely on "estimated values":

Confirm the net weight of the workpiece

Directly weigh the heaviest part to be flipped, rather than relying on the "theoretical weight" indicated on the design drawings.

Example: The drawing indicates a workpiece weight of 800kg, but the actual assembly includes accessories weighing 950kg. If a 1-ton load flipping machine is selected, the reserved margin is insufficient, and long-term use may lead to overload.

Evaluate load distribution and center of gravity offset

If the workpiece has an irregular shape, eccentric structure, or uneven weight distribution, an additional calculation of "equivalent load" is required - the center of gravity offset will cause the flipping machine to be subjected to concentrated forces, and the actual bearing pressure may far exceed the net weight of the workpiece.

For example, if the center of gravity of a 1-ton workpiece is offset by 50cm, the "actual force" on the flipping machine during flipping may be equivalent to a uniform load of 1.2-1.3 tons. In this case, the selection should be based on the "equivalent load" rather than just the net weight.

Key comparison: Matching degree between device labeled load and "computational load"

After obtaining the parameters of the electric flipping machine, it is necessary to focus on checking the following two core indicators to avoid being misled by the "nominal load":

Verify 'rated load' instead of 'maximum instantaneous load'

The equipment manual will indicate "rated load" and "maximum instantaneous load".

It must be ensured that the actual weight of the workpiece is ≤ the rated load of the equipment

Beware of Misconception: If you only focus on the "maximum instantaneous load", long-term use can lead to motor overload and structural deformation.

Confirm the 'flipping condition' corresponding to the load

The load parameters of some flipping machines will be bound to "flipping angle" and "flipping speed".

Matching required: Your actual flipping angle and speed requirements should be consistent with the "rated load under corresponding operating conditions" marked on the equipment.

Security redundancy: Reserve sufficient load margin

Even if the weight of the workpiece is less than or equal to the rated load, redundancy should be reserved to cope with unexpected situations, which is the key to long-term safe use:

Conventional scenario: Reserve a margin of 10% -20%.

Example: If the actual weight of the workpiece is 1.2 tons, a flipping machine with a rated load of ≥ 1.44 tons should be selected instead of just 1.2 tons.

Special scenarios (with a 20% -30% margin reserved).

For example, if the weight of the eccentric workpiece is 800kg and the equivalent load is about 1 ton, a flipping machine with a rated load of ≥ 1.3 tons should be selected.

Actual verification: confirmed through testing or case studies

If conditions permit, further verification can be conducted through the following methods to avoid a disconnect between parameters and actual performance:

On site machine testing

Carry the "heaviest parts" to be flipped to the manufacturer or distributor, and operate the flipping machine to complete 1-2 complete working cycles. Observe:

Whether the equipment runs smoothly;

Whether the motor and reducer are overheated;

Whether the control system is accurate (such as whether the angle positioning deviation is within the allowable range).

If there is a decrease in motor speed or shaking of the flipping frame during the test run, it indicates that the load may not be matched.

Reference customer cases of similar working conditions

Ask the manufacturer if there are any customer cases similar to yours in terms of workpiece type, weight, and flipping conditions.

If the manufacturer can provide a case of a customer using a 1.5-ton flipping machine to stably flip 1.2 tons of eccentric workpieces, it can increase the confidence in selection;

If the manufacturer is unable to provide matching cases, careful evaluation is necessary.

Eliminating Misconceptions: Avoiding 3 Common Misconceptions

Do not blindly pursue 'heavy loads'

It is believed that 'the larger the load, the safer it is', but excessive load can lead to an increase in equipment size, cost, and energy consumption.

Do not ignore the weight of auxiliary accessories

If fixtures, suction cups, lifting devices, and other accessories are required for flipping, the weight of the accessories should be included in the "total weight of the workpiece".

Not relying on verbal promises

All commitments related to the load shall be based on the written annotations in the equipment manual and technical agreement to avoid disputes in the future.

Summary: Simplified judgment process

Accurately calculate the "actual weight of the workpiece+equivalent load";

Verify that the 'rated load of the equipment (corresponding to operating conditions)' is greater than or equal to the actual total load;

Reserve 10% -30% redundancy according to the scenario;

Test run or reference similar cases for verification;

Eliminate issues such as "high load misconception" and "ignoring accessory weight".

Through the above steps, it can be ensured that the load capacity of the electric flipping machine fully matches the demand, balancing safety and economy.
